Spring Conference of Data Protection Authorities 2017

Welcome Message

Dear colleagues,

Ten years after the Spring Conference of Data Protection Authorities hosted in Larnaka, I am delighted to welcome you in Cyprus again, at the 2017 edition of the Conference, hosted in Limassol this time.

New data protection regimes are underway. In the context of the modernisation of the Council of Europe Convention 108 and the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation and the Police Directive in the EU, we are confronted with many new challenges in the way by which we should carry out our functions and promote data protection rights.

The conference is entitled “New Horizons” and under this promising theme we have planned to discuss topics including raising awareness, transparency in the Cloud, Law Enforcement Authorities' access to data and genomic research. The agenda was developed in light of these challenges and designed to appeal the widest possible range of delegates.

The Cyprus DPA was further mandated to revise the accreditation rules of the conference adopted in 2004. I trust that we shall use this opportunity and try to develop the Spring Conference in such a way as to make it the absolute data protection event of the year for data protection authorities in Europe!

In this website you will find the agenda, as well as travel information and details about the accommodation and the venue. My office remains at your disposal for any other assistance you may need.

We look forward to welcoming you to Limassol this April.
